Peers comment highlights Tory's real environmental agenda

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 21st Apr 2006

David Cameron has "reassured" former Energy Minister Lord Jenkin of his commitment to nuclear power. The revelation came to light yesterday during an exchange in the House of Lords between Lord Jenkin and Liberal Democrat Peer Lord (Rupert) Redesdale.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"Lord Jenkin's comments are very worrying. They show that the Tories new found enthusiasm for the environment is nothing but skin deep.

"It is not so much a case of vote blue go green, as vote blue go nuclear.

"If the Tory party wants to demonstrate real commitment to the environment, they must stop the stream of endless rhetoric, and instead bring forward real policies for halting climate change."
