"This is exactly the sort of innovative business thinking that we need to push the green agenda forward".

Responding to the announcement by Tesco, that they will invest £100m internally in environmentally sustainable technology, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"Tesco has committed itself to investing £100 into environmentally sustainable technologies, which is double the extra £50 million allocated in the budget for micro generation development.

"We always stand ready to criticise major corporations when they act inappropriately. Therefore we should be prepared to welcome positive moves such as this.

"If this initiative does result in more sustainable practices then it is exactly the sort of innovative business thinking that we need to push the green agenda forward."
