Nuclear generation continues to need close supervision.

Commenting on the £2m fine levied on the operators of the Dounreay nuclear site for a spillage of radioactive liquid, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"This is a worrying breach of safety and underlines the continued need for the closest supervision of nuclear generation.

"The risks of nuclear power are such that no private investors have been prepared to build new nuclear reactors without lashings of government subsidy since Chernobyl and Three Mile Island."
