THAMES WATER PROFITS FURTHER BLOW TO CUSTOMERS - HUHNE12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 10th Aug 2006 Commenting on news that the company that owns Thames Water has today reported a 19% increase in first half operating profits, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said: "This rise in profits underlines yet again the contempt in which Thames Water appears to hold its customers. "It has missed its leakage targets for three successive years while announcing record profits and failing to ensure the security of water supply, which is its core purpose. "The regulator needs to get tough with Thames Water to ensure a sharp improvement in its service and to avoid future hosepipe bans and drought orders."
