CLIMATE CHANGE REPORT HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR GREEN TAXES - HUHNE
12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 25th Aug 2006
Commenting on research which claims to show that climate change is making spring arrive earlier each year, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP, said:
"This latest research once again highlights the need for quick, decisive action to tackle climate change.
"The Government's record on climate change has not been a good one. Emissions of carbon dioxide are rising, with a fall in green taxes demonstrating their failure to take the necessary policy decisions.
"There is a clear need for taxes that would be fairer and greener but not higher, to change our behaviour and safeguard our planet for our children.
"Only the Liberal Democrats are proposing the kind of policies that would make a serious difference in tackling this vital issue."
