LAWSON OFF BEAM NOT STERN - HUHNE

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 6th Feb 2007

Commenting on Lord Lawson's accusation that the Stern review was based on implausible assumptions, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"As the former Chancellor who gave his name to the Lawson boom, Lord Lawson is a past master at implausible assumptions.

"Sir Nick Stern, by contrast, has a reputation for sober, honest and objective calculation. This is an unfair and unfounded criticism. Lord Lawson is off beam, not Nick Stern."
