Thames barrier plan highlights Government failure

4.20.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 28th Aug 2007

Responding to comments by Phil Woolas that a feasibility study into a second Thames barrier is due to report within weeks, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"This is belated recognition that the Government has seriously underestimated the risks of flooding by failing to take into account the worsening outlook caused by climate chaos.

"The Government is still not investing enough in flood defences. We need real projects, not just feasibility studies."
